Dating back to 1888, The Pawn is housed in one of Hong Kong’s most historical buildings. What was once the famous Woo Cheong pawn shop became The Pawn in 2008 and re-opened in collaboration with British celebrity chef Tom Aikens after an extensive refurbishment. Featuring modern British cuisine on the second floor ‘Kitchen’ and handcrafted cocktails and artisanal spirits on the first floor ‘Botanicals’ bar. 

With a permanent art collection curated by well-known Hong Kong artist ‘anothermountainman’ (Stanley Wong) featuring some of Hong Kong’s top contemporary artists, The Pawn has become more than just a dining space. It is a communal social venue for an eclectic mix of groups and sub-cultures, celebrating retro-futurism, arts & design, through casual-chic, al fresco and relaxed dining.

Opened since 1998 in Hong Kong as the brain-child of veteran restaurateur, Mr. Carmelo Lopez. A native Spanish himself, he came to Asia in the 70’s but was still nostalgically attached to the richness and exquisite taste of the cuisine of his motherland. Ole was created from this crave for authenticity! Just experience the genuine touch of Spain the moment you step inside the restaurant: the lemon yellow plastered walls and glazed terracotta tiles of the Mediterranean, the lighting fixture and the decorative potteries directly flown from Spain. Stormies is one of Lan Kwai Fong's quintessential meeting landmarks. Following a nautical theme, the ground floor bar features floor-to-ceiling folding windows that open onto the busy D'Aguilar Street. The floor is covered with teak furniture resembling a ship's deck and a long, polished brass bar countertop stretches across the room. Dominating the bar's sunset yellow walls are large mirrors, framed in stainless steel, complete with brass bolts. Nautical wares such as solid brass barometers, cabin clocks and anchors adorn the walls. A pair of 21-inch televisions screens footage from classic yachting races to annual sports events. The recently renovated upper deck features live sports on big screens and large windows, making it the perfect place to people watch over the busiest party street in Hong Kong.

An extensive menu of seafood, ribs, salads, pastas and sandwiches is available. For a light bite, sandwiches like the Stormies Club or Stormies Classic Burger are perfect. Ophelia takes inspiration from Hong Kong’s history, waitresses in cheongsams sashay through the intimate alcoves and semi-private rooms, reminiscent of the city’s 19th century upscale opium dens which have been brought into modern day through the use of intricate metal work, handmade plush velvet furniture and resplendent peacock feathers.
